comment: I'm researching the letter from Beethoven to John Broadwood (1818) shown on web-page www.uk-piano.org/broadwood/lvb_wood.html
Could you possibly advise me in what language it was written (The image is not of high enough resolution to decipher the writting).
I understand that the letter also appeared in a book called 'Broadwood by Appointment' (which I'm trying to locate).
I would greatly appreciate any assistance you can render.
Thank you.

comment: You may recall giving me some advice before, vis; don't pay for a major restoration just to increase resale value. We have just taken posession of a Bechstein baby grand which was originally bought by my grandfather for my mother in about 1935(?), and was left to me by my uncle, who died this year. The piano has been fully restored, structurally and externally by John Thompson of Sussex Piano Services. It was originally in a very sad state but now looks magnificent. We are hopeful that our 7-year old daughter will eventually enjoy playing it but, until then, my wife dabbles and we have some very musical neighbours. Besides which, it's a lovely piece of furniture. How can we confirm its age etc.? Where do I look for a serial number or whatever? You can tell this all new to me. The action is a bit clunky and some keys are slightly stiff. I know this is not something to be messed with by amateurs, but are there any good books on how pianos work, what goes wrong, restoration of the mechanism and so on? Can one get the bits?! Sorry to go on, but it is quite daunting becoming the owner of a thing like this.
Regards, Nick Kaberry

comment: Just bought myself a piano [Evestaff??] - a 1930s Deco Style miniature model [only 73 keys and all the innards are below key leve]

Had a go at tuning it myself [using a digital freuqncy meter to set the frequency of a sine generator, then tuing each string for zero beat. Did I do right? Well before it was grossly out of tune. Now it's still not well tuned but not awful.
I'll have another go soon... Cheers, Martin

I live in an apartment building and don't want any grief from the neighbors. With my digital, I can play in the middle of the night. With 2 head-sets I have played-4-handed music so very happily without having to worry about the time.I would also ask you if there is a website for English composers - contemporary. I am particularly looking for music written by Graham de Wilde. I'd appreciate any help here. Also I want to find places wher I can buy sheet music on the internet. Thanks for your help. It is very beautiful burled wood finish with brass candleholders on each side and a retractable sheet music holder that folds out of the top of the case. The piano is need of restoration, I don't know how much. It appears to be in good shape considering it's apparent age. I am not able to locate any information on this piece, can you help? I received a 550 invalid address from mail.hotmail.com:
My reply:
The Kemble Classic is the one you are looking for as a new one. They are just over £2000 in the North of England. As it is summer flash the cash under the nose of owner of a piano shop and you mite get it for £1900.

They have 85 notes instead of 88 7 octave instead 7 1/4
Hope this is of some help

A memeber of that church purchased a new piano and blessed me with the gift of their old upright paino. I just completed refurbishing it, and now I am curious on the history of it.. Trying to locate any/all information on it.. It's an upright - 88keys from middle C to A/B - incased harp with stamps on upper right hand side "Concord Geo. P. Bent Company Louisville.KY.. #230879 / 23897. Removable case w/felttip hammer like instruments reads - "Highest Awards" Strauch Bros. N.Y. Columbian Exposition 1893

Would aprreciate any information you can supply or avenue where I can start... Thank You
