I've just bought a "Brahms" piano cheap at auction, but I can't find any mention online about this brand. Any help?
Thanks! |

They are listed in Pierce However, that is not proof that there were a manufacture more likely the name Brarhms was the name of a retail shop who acquired the piano for one of the larger piano manufactures to place their own name on the piano. see Bills article on piano names. http://www.uk-piano.org/piano-gen/piano-names-aliases.html
There is a make called Brarhms & Bach c1922 - 1934 according to Pierce See
As to quality hard to say with out seeing the piano - it is more than likely a straight strung over damper piano quite common in the UK some are very usable pianos but quite a lot are past there use by day.
See here for a photo of a straight strung over damper piano insides http://www.uk-piano.org/history/images/verts.html
Hope this is some help

| Thanks for the information! Yes, a "generic" background as you and Bill describe seems very likely, but judging from the styling, the piano's relatively young. I'm still waiting for it to be delivered to inspect it more closely. |

If the piano is straight strung then it would be at least 60 years old. _________________ Chris Melloy
