Dear All
We are about to buy our first ever piano and found a tuner-tecnician dealer we like. Our choices are now narroved down to used upright Welmar(1979) and a Petrof (1980. Most "piano people" we spoke to recommended the Welmar , but a piano teacher we know loved the Petrof and often goes in the showroom to play it.. Priced the same, they both have lovely rich sound, and feel strong to the touch ,the Petrof more so. We dont want to be influenced by the "famous brand thing", any comments please.

Go with the piano teacher
Why! Welmar were a very good make. However, the same fate will happen to them as has happend to the Bentley a inferior piano will be mass produced in the Far East devaluing the secondhand market of Welmars in the future, so if you intend to upgrade later on the Petrof which is improving all the time should turn out to be a better investment when upgrading.
