Someone in the forum mentioned that different brands of pianos coming out from the same factory. It's really confuse me.
I recently discovered that Samick Korea making Kohler & Campbell and Alex Steinbach pianos.
They look identical , sound pretty much the same but price is different. Why is that ?
Also, could you comment a Samick 3-ply laminated sound board.Is it really innovation or is it better than solid sound board used in other pianos.
How you will compare Samick pianos with a Kawai, Yamaha or Kemble pianos.

Could be different parts eg better hammers on the Campbell or could be that your just paying for the name

Baldwin did it for years it is nothing new they Guaranteed their sound board for 25 Years but they never used it on their quality pianos

Not in the same League
Yamaha most of its pianos are in the top of the first division some at the bottom their hand finished “S” models and there CFIII are in the mid of the Premier division some would say that the CFIII is up there with the best
Kawai a bit lower down form Yamaha except for their concert grand that is good some would say far better than the CFIII and a Steinway
Kemble middle of the first division but their The K131 is lower to middle Premier division
Samick second division with some makes in the first division
Just my opinion other will think different

There is almost a fifty pound difference between the Samich and the Koehler & Campbell (advantage K & C) pianos of the same scale and configuration (model). Does anyone no why?
By my experience, there is little similariy in sound between the two on the show room floor. The Koehler & Campbell is voiced very much more sweetly, without the characteristic Samich jangle . Does anyone know how they have achieved this? The web sights are so poorly designed (the Samich sight is not even up at the present time) that they giave no clue.
Are these piano's possibly more different inside than we suspect? Not, I mean, more or less expensive than one another, just differently oriented. Or, is the voicing of one or the other superficially achieved, and soon to decay into a generically bright house sound?

Can’t comment on the Koehler & Campbell as we don’t get them in the UK one of the US or Canadian tuners who read the forum may comment
As to achieving a softer tone that is quite simple we just tone the piano down we soften the hammers However, to get a deep rich tone the hammer quality has to be there so the Koehler & Campbell may have better quality hammers
Good hammers can improve a poor piano quite a lot but only to a point some of the cheep pianos coming out of Far East Factories are using Able hammers, which has made a difference

Kohler & Campbell and Alex Steinbach have German Roslau strings and that give them clear and pure sound. They are both Samick export models made in Indonesia/Korea.
Technical help from the Klaus Fenner since 1983 and his world famous German Imperial Scale help them to achieve the superb tonal quality of those pianos.Both Kohler & Campbell and Alex Steinbach have AMBIC/Japan hammer felt which is important as well.
Regarding the weight I think that difference is only about 5 -6 kg for the same size.
Samick used own strings and own T-pin so maybe why they sound a bit inferior to you although some people will think different.
By the way Kohler and Campbell was a US manufacturer that went out of business in 1985.
Alex Steinbach and Kohler & Campbell are well known brands here in Australia.
My personal opinion is that both Alex Steinbach and Kohler & Campbell are wonderful quality at an attractive price.
