| Hello Mr. Kibby--A Brian Lawson in South Africa referred you to me-We have owned an older Collard & Collard (parlor?)grand piano bought from an estate sale in Houston,Texas-we live about 100 miles south of Dallas,Texas. The piano has not been played in a couple of years since our daughter married. We are not piano professionals and know nothing about models,brands,etc.-it was just a beautiful rosewood and looked good in our older two story home. To make my request: a man recently asked if we would sell it and we have no idea of it's age, history or "value"! It has 85 keys, with a serial number found on the soundboard of 18367 and number 74 above the s/n. Also, I found the names of two men written and stamped in the wood: D.E. McClary and C.(or S.)Buckell. ANY help would be appreciated! Sincerely, Doug & Dianne Hooks in Mexia,Texas |

Unfortunately, the published numbers are misleading, see "Numbers" on the PianoGen website. Are there any other numbers, perhaps underneath, or under the keyblocks at either end of the keyboard?... _________________ I do not buy, sell or value pianos, but I sometimes rescue pre-1880 pianos in the UK.

| Mr. Kibby-Thanks for your email....the 74 is above the s/n-probably not part of it...Do the names of the men have any bearing on the timeframe? As I said, I'm not "piano literate"! I couldn't see any other obvious numbers and don't really know how to look under a piece-I don't want to destroy anything...would some fotos of the piano and numbers, etc. be of any help? I'm just so curious now as to any history related to this piece! Doug Hooks |

Photos are always interesting, and I can print a full written report if they are detailed enough, see "Reports" on my PianoGen site.
http://www.uk-piano.org/piano-gen/
See also "Numbers" & "Datemarks": The 74 is a Model Number, and not much help. I can also offer a newly-extended general booklet on the firm's history for &20. _________________ I do not buy, sell or value pianos, but I sometimes rescue pre-1880 pianos in the UK.
