Question Hello - my mum has a piano that she believes was made in 1830 and has the name George Brysson on it. Could anybody kindly tell me where I might find info. about these pianos. I've searched a couple of websites but can't find anything about them.

Regards
Dave

Hi! The name Bryson is listed on my PianoGen website: However, George only seems to have had one "S", so your search with two would not have picked it up. Pigot's Directory of London, 1822 lists George Bryson, Piano Forte maker, 30, Hackney Road. Dr Rosamund Harding “The Pianoforte” says George Bryson was listed in London from 1824 to 1830. This may be the same George Bryson who was in Scotland around 1807-1818, but there were other piano firms with the same surname. I would be interested to see photos.

Thank you very much for finding this information. Apparently the piano was handed down from family that lived in a house on the banks of the clyde in scotland. I'll try to get my mum to take some photos and get them scanned and sent.

Thanks again
Dave

Glad to help. If it came from Scotland, I wonder if it's the scottish Brysson? I'd be interested to know whether it has a double S.
