I have just bought a piano for my wife which needs some restoration. The only information I can find on the piano [I have no previous knowledge of pianos] is the following.
Attfield
London
Established 1799
and a smaller gold transfer
Alphonse Cary Ltd
47 - 48 Northbrook St
Newbury
The number stamped into the main frame is 102469
and a lot of the pices have 469 stamped into them.
I have tried searching the internet to no avail. We would like to just know a little history... If anybody can help we would really appriciate it.
Thanks |

Hi! I have nothing ready on computer about the name Attfield, London so far, and I doubt that they existed in 1799, but I'll see what I can find in card and paper files. Cary is on file, mainly in the early 1900s, and what happened sometimes is that firms would buy in pianos from a London wholesale factory, and put an alias on them, mentioning London, but not the real maker's name. See the NAMES item on PianoGen.org _________________ I do not buy, sell or value pianos, but I sometimes rescue wood-frame pianos in the UK.
