I am not new to your site , but was unaware until this evening that the forum had been started and it looks great.
Bill I contacted you a few years ago about a Black 7ft 3inch C model Grand piano circa 1870 complete with style 1 Steinway plate that started its life in your part of the world. Originally made in Nancy France by the Mangeot Brothers and sold by the very first European Steinway Dealer, The Piano Forte Baker St London. I have been researching this piano on and off for the past 8 years or so and was wondering if you or any of your forum members have anything to add to this intriguing story.
Unfortunately Steinway in Hamburg have indicated that all documents were lost in the bombings of Steinway Buildings in London during WW2. But they have indicated they are still interested in any further progress re this research.

The forum has been around for years. Yes, I certainly remember your enquiry, I often come across it in our files, but have nothing to add, in fact when I saw this enquiry, I was hoping it might be a new lead, especially as it was signed by the Mangeot Brothers! We have no funding to cover research abroad, so anything that turns up at random is a matter of luck.

When I recieved your emails a while back indicating that you were looking into this subject I just thought I'd check to see if you found anything more on it, its been a while.
I wasnt surprised as its a difficult subject to find info on, however Williams Diaries makes for good reading if people are interested.

Hi, Im french and may english (as all frenchies) is very bad. I have a "Piano 3/4 de queue MANGEOT-STEINWAY & SONS mod?le 240 (year 1866)" and I work to get informations about it.

I'll contact the Nancy's tow and it music conservatory. If you're interrest I can transmit it to you, but there will be in french.

Sorry, I'm slow and busy. I receive the informations from Nancy. Nothing really intteresting, just some informations about the factor (Mr Mangeot) in the piano's world history. The men was very interresting, but did not possed informations about the end of "mangeot & fils" compagny, and the stenway importation in the last part of his history.
The documents are partials copies of two frenchs books that we dont still find in library.javascript:emoticon('')

Benvoreux, if you want leave me your email adress than I sent you copies of the documents I received.

Mangeot Brothers do you read french ? The documents I receives dont speak aubout your instruments, only on world piano developpement. I still dont possed information about my piano.
