Hi i was interested in some information even if just some dates if possible for my piano? I have absolutely no idea about it, it was my parents'. It is an upright piano, with the words Carl Schumann STUTTGART written under the lid for the keyboard and inside the top the serial (presumably it is a serial number!) number is 18318. Any other information you need?

SCHUMANN (CARL) STUTTGART, GERMANY
1857 Established in Liepzig.
1911 Listed as bona fide makers by Alfred Dolge "Pianos and their makers".
1928 They are listed in Musique Adresses Universel, but at Leipzig, and it is possible they moved from Stuttgart.

No dates of serial numbers are available.

There's also some other writing i just discovered "allan & co pty ltd, Melbourne".
Any other way to date apart from serial number then?

Probably not! If you know how to remove the action safely (the working parts of the notes) it may be marked with the action makers' name and number, and we may be able to date this.
