|
Hi,
Some advise please.
I have a Lyon London piano which I have had recently looked at for a quote on tuning and restoring.
The piano tuner advised me that it would be well worth while to restore my piano as they are now quite rare and could be worth around &1500.
Would this be right or is he just trying to get restoration business from me?
Kind Regards,
Mike Johnson |

All depends what he/she means by restore and how much………..
Lyon London I think a retailer would struggle to get &1500 for it unrestord
As a general rule of thumb I know tell may clients unless the piano is of sentimental value, upright pianos are not worth restrings because of the price of new ones from the fare east, they so cheep it is just not worth it in most cases. The exception to the above are pianos with unusual cases or the big 4 names
A full Restore in my book is:
The Back
a full restring with new pins
soundboard / bridge repairs if needed
re spray of the frame
If it has Agrafs replace or ream
The Action
New hammers or recover
New damper felts and pads
All springs replaced
Re centred
Re burnish Jacks
Rebush keys
Refelt keybed
New leather on balance and notch
New notch cushions and pads
Normally the check felt is OK in 70% of pianos
For the above 2,000 plus materials
And then you have polishing on top that _________________ Barrie Heaton
