I would greatly appreciate it if as many people as possible could help me. I have found that there are not many books/resources available that teach tricks, methods, runs etc..general tricks of the trade for professional/amateur pianist/keyboard player. One can easily end up purchasing a book to find that there are about two really usefull pages and a lot of useless narrative accompanying it, meaning that a fortune can be spent collecting an entire library of books with one usefull thing in each.
I undertand why books are like this and why the information is so hard toget hold of - people writing books want to make a living out of it and teachers would rather pass on their knowledge for an hourly rate then supply it for free.
My mission is to gather lots of information and publish for free on the internet a 'No Bulls***t Guide' to tricks/methods/runs/ etc..for people that already play at an intermediate level and want to know how to get very good through their own hard work and practice without having to pay teachers a fortune [who slow down progress] or search for some kind of Holy grail through thousands of books.
I expect some people may leave negative feedback and rubbish my plans because of their own self interest but for those people like me who just love music and want to share with others knowledge without pages of narrative or thousands of pounds in lessons then please contribute.
Here is an example of the level of detail that I would apply to a particular trick:
Example this is a tip I have got from someone just through conversation in pub:
The Jacobson Tremolo Run - supplied by a good friend Chris Jacobson After Conversation in the Pub
If you have a run that involves a difficult Chord to Run Up the Piano with [or you just want to make a good effect without haveing to be 100% accurate] then this is a good run to use.
Example using C7 chord
1. The left hand plays the chord below middle C and tremolo it play C-E-G-Bflat
2. The right hand starts at middle C and runs up the first 4 notes C-E-G-Bflat and then stays on these note tremolo in them
3. Then tight hand repeats for the next octave [i.e. run up C-E-G-Bflat one octave higher then tremolo it]
4. Repeat as many octaves up as you want.
If people could provide brief descriptions [and any MP3, midi, wav files would be a bonus] such as this for any run/trick/tip anything that is usefull really then I will collect together and publich free on my Website
A collection of things like this would be very valuable to a lot of people - whatever name you leave will be published in the guide and attempt to give the skill you provide a name that reflects who you are - so who knows you may end up with a particular trick or run named after you [unofficially of course but a name used in piano bars round the world]
Pleae contribute and leave contact details when I have set up the site I will let you know where it is. Also if you leave a very brief history of where or who taught you your tip then I will include this in the details.
Email me your contributions to mattblack9000@yahoo.co.uk
