| I have recently bought a piano,it is my first one so it is a dream come true but i have no idea how old it is and i need help! The name on it is William A Adam and it appears to have been made in Newcastle on Tyne,it also says MANDAMIA reg on the lid. The serial number is 9453. If anyone can give me any information on its age or even if they have heard of the maker i would be eternally grateful. |

In 1914, William Allan Adam, Piano and musical instrument dealer, was listed in The Cabinet Maker Jan. 31 in connection with legal proceedings. I'll see what else I can find. "Mandamia Regd." means the name was registered as a trade mark, and these were sometimes a sign of pianos made by Murdoch. It almost looks like an anagram of something to do with Adam. _________________ I do not buy, sell or value pianos, but I sometimes rescue pre-1890 pianos in the UK.
