I have an old dark coloured upright grand piano that belonged to my great grandmother. It is a Wellington, made by the Cable Piano Company, and the serial # is 11557. It was damaged by the movers in my last move and I am trying to establish its' age and monetary value(!) for insurance (if they'll pay for it!).

The number suggests 1891, but it is not always that simple: See "Numbers" on the PianoGen website. As for value, see "Valuation" there, and also Barrie's comments at the top of the forum.

Have a look at the Datemarks page on my own website: http://www.pianogen.org
