I don't like them much. Action feels dead and tuning is not the most stable. In fact I think most Kawai grands are no better than average apart from the latest RX series with the Carbon Action and the Shigeru models which are all superb.
They did some crappy colours in the GS range too. Satin Walnut is a total stinker which has a greenish tint to it like dried snot. |

Why isn't the tuning stable?
(At least my worthless junk is very stable (not having a wrest plank  ) |

| The GS40s that I've tuned seem to need a pitch raise then a pitch drop on alternate tunings. They are a nightmare if it's imperitive that they are at concert pitch. If pitch isn't that critical for you then they're OK I guess. They sound fine if a little 'short' in the treble. |

| This is an old thread, I know, but a friend has been offered one for £4000 and wanted my advice. I enjoyed a GS-30 which I played recently, but found the GS-40 in question to be very much as PianoGuy describes. My hunch is not to go for it, but what do others think? |
