Hey guys, I'm new here and this might sound like a really weird question Smile

I'm self-taught, and I haven't ever had lessons so I've been worried what grade I "roughly" am. I know grades aren't purely based on playing ability but If I provided a song that I could play, could any of you give a rough grade I would be at? I've always been wondering and it would really be insightful.

One of the songs I can play perfectly is : http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/sega/dreamcast/nozomi2.mid

(On the page you're directed to, there's a little bit saying "click here to listen/download the requested file...Direct linking isn't allowed :p)

Again, I would really really really appreciate it Smile Thanks alot guys, I'm only just looking for a rough interpretation.

Vincent

It says '403 Forbidden'...what's the password? Shocked God, I hate computers...
Well, Fur Elise (which most people play at some point in their lives; it's the law) is Grade 4ish. However, that could cover bad Grade 5 performances, overachieving/overestimating Grade 3 performances... Rolling Eyes You see how difficult it is. The Moonlight Sonata, for instance is something that a lot of people have a crack at. However, some try it in C minor instead of C#minor - only one note, but a hell of a difference! I think there's even a version in A minor!
The best thing you coulds do is bite the bullet, hand in pocket, and pay for a one-off piano lesson where a qualified teacher could give you an honest and informed opinion and advise you on what to play next or whether to have an occasional lesson or whether you should give it all up and go in for worm husbandry or something (unlikely!).
I don't know whether your excerpt is classical or jazz, but try to find a teacher with experience in your particular discipline.

Oops, I don't think you can directly link .midi files. Somewhere buried on the page is

"You are attempting to access the file from a site other than VGMusic.com. Remote linking of MIDI files is blocked (see below).
Click here to listen to/download the requested file."

In the first paragraph or so, that links directly to the piece Razz Thanks for the help so far ^^

Grade 4 ish? Music's not wonderful, so it's hard to tell. And it's not a real piano, either!!!
