I just purchased an upright piano made by J. Bauer & Co. of Chicago, from the little I know Julius Bauer made Pianos for Wurlitzer up until 1937, is this Bauer the same as the Stultz & Bauer from New York??? I am hoping to date the piano, the serial number is 31285. There was also a list of dates for patents printed inside the piano. These patents included Action bolt, Fall Board, and Squeakless pedal. All these patent dates were in the 1890's or so. The piano is in pretty rough condition but still has a very warm tone and is for the most part in operating condition. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Question

Interesting the number you have given would place it at c1889 (1885 = 27000, 1890 = 32000 ) according to Pierce. Yet the patent dates were in the 1890's on the piano.

Julius Bauer Pianos were made by Wurlitzer from 1930 to 1938 they also had shop in Crosley Opera House before 1871. Their first address was 99s Clarck st

Hope that is of some help

Barrie,
