Hi, my name is Vicki and I live in California. I inherited from my mother a very old piano called a cabinet grand and I believe the maker is J M Cramer NEW YORK or that is what I can decipher from the fading gold letters. My mother told me it came "round the horn" to San Francisco during the gold rush days and has been in our family since then. It is quite beat up ivory missing from the keys, part of the design work on the left side has been punched out, piano bench is all scuffed and probably needs refinishing. Anyway I have never heard of the Cramer Co so I looked here and found a little of a Cramer company in England. Are these two companies affiliated or do I have the name wrong? It could be Craner Co. too. It is very difficult to tell. I just would like a little history about this piece as it has great sentimental value to me. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

Johann Baptist Cramer was a famous musician, and his music business (which later produced pianos) was based in London. I have no record of a New York firm, but this is a UK site. I have lots of info on J.B. Cramer, and if you want a quote for printing a booklet, press www below. At times, it seems that almost every enquiry from the States is a "cabinet grand"! What do you understand by that?
