We are in Nova Scotia and have been looking for an affordable piano. We have been offered one for a very good price but have been warned by many not to be hasty on what seems like a good deal. We have not looked at it but got some more details. I was wondering if anyone out there has heard of this make and can tell me if its OK - apparently it only wants tuning and 2 new hammers!!!! I am told that can be the tip of the iceberg! The Piano bears the name Powell - Tomell & Co London. Other writing they could find was Iron Frame Grand - and what looks like "Grochid Check Action" (his writing is not the best either) Its all greek to me - I hope someone can help. If its a great piano I would hate to lose it. Many Thanks in advance - PW |

You can not judge a piano by name alone the piano need to be looked at by a tuner before you part with any money, it is just like me asking a mechanic in the Nova Scotia is this Morris car in the UK worth buying I don’t know when it was made but the outside is in mint condition He or she probably has have never seen a Morris car or worked on one, I am sure you are aware of the things that can be wrong with a used car, well there are more moving parts in a piano than a car so get some to look at it
However, it sounds like an old straight strung not worth the trouble

I'm glad you've been warned not to be too hasty with this one, as Barrie says (if you haven't already) get a local tuner to examine it for you before you committ yourself. It does sound as though its quite old though. _________________ Chris Melloy
