Hi! The wife and I have just bought ourselves a 2nd hand piano - W Danemann upright Full Trichord Iron Frame Check Action - from a charity shop. Neither of us play, but are planning to learn. The piano's mainly for our nephew and neice to practise on (we must be mad!) and for our granddaughter who (although she is only 16 months old at the moment) may want to learn later. I know Danemanns are quite reliable but can anyone give me some specific info about this particular model. I can't find any serial codes or dates anywhere.

Thankyou

Danemann pianos usually have a serial number which is quite easy to find by opening the top, but this is obviously an old one, such terms as "Full Trichord" were not used much after the early 1900s, because almost every piano had three strings per note in the tenor and treble sections. It is not usually possible to find details of individual models of any make, even if we knew what model it was. The archives for Danemann may exist somewhere, but I have never been able to locate them. Another maker from that area has the archives stored in a garage, and sadly not accessible to anyone. Have a look at the Datemarks page at www.pianogen.org

No doubt we will be receiving angry cries from the ladies in our ranks about the phrase "the wife"!

Thankyou for your reply. We've since had a tuner round to have a look at the piano. He didn't look too closely but says its probably over 120 years, which is slightly younger than our house, so it should feel at home.

The tuner's coming back in a few weeks time to tune it, but the missus (!) has already been practising, and our grand daughter has already tried it for size - she loves it, so look out for her on Young Musician of the Year in about 10 years time.
