What's the general rule of thumb about when to tune a piano after its been shifted? I've heard people say one should wait for a couple of months.

Should one wait until the piano has had time to acclimatize to its new micro-climate, or have it tuned immediately?

Would the advice be different if a piano hadn't been tuned for a long time before being shifted? I've recently had moved into my home a 104 year old Feurich upright. It hasn't been tuned for some years (and sounds remarkably good given that fact!), but does need a tune.

Should I get it tuned immediately and then again in a few months? Or am I wasting my time (and the tuner's!) if I get it tuned so soon after it's been shifted? Should I just wait a few months until its settled down?

Thanks for any advice you might have for me.

Regards,

I always suggest 2-3 weeks for any piano but if it hasn't been tuned for a long time then it might need 2 tunings. It may sound good to you but to a tuner it might sound awful Smile
Tuners have different suggestions and there's no golden rule but I would leave it 2-3 weeks then have it tuned and if it needs pulling up ( bearing in mind its age and the condition of the strings etc) then I would have a pitch and fine followed by a tuning 2-3 months later. But every tuners different, some have red eyes Twisted Evil
