| We have recently inherited a John Brinsmead upright piano. It has the serial No. S4659. Can anyone give me an idea of its age? It is in good condition. Alf |

The number you quote is not a Brinsmead serial number, is the "S" really there? It sounds more like a dealer's stock number. See the articles on Numbers and Datemarks on the PianoGen website, and also the comments below. _________________ I do not buy, sell or value pianos, but I sometimes rescue pre-1890 pianos in the UK.

OOps. It is probably 84659 and Inside it has the word Schwander.
There is also an old transfer with a medalion on it and the words Legion of Honour.
