Okay. Just a quick introduction. I moved into a house that came with an upright piano in the basement. The history of it is that it was once owned by a church and giving to the house's previous owner about 30 years ago. At some point in time someone attempted to paint it a hideous puke-green color. (Terrible paint job: you can see the brush-strokes and there is absolutely no shine to it.) Most of the keys work, but it's pretty out of tune (except for probably the center 30 keys or so)...

I decided to make it my project to restore the piano and paint it a funky color and make it my own. The question is, first, should I hire a tuner to come in and check it out, and what is an average price for a tuner to come to my house? Secondly, where in the world would I begin to learn how to paint a piano? I have no painting experience, but I'm guessing it would need to be sanded down, stripped of it's paint, laquered over a few times, etc... Where can I get info on how to properly paint it?

Thank you and any help would be a HUGE help!

Tim

Yes get a tuner out to see if the piano is worth the trouble, as to price all depends where in the world you live there is a big difference across the UK

As to painting it that is one way to devalue a piano
