I have a Dunham piano and would like to know more about it. It looks like a rectangle table, one side opens up to reveal the keys. Ive never seen anything like it. Some of the keys dont work, and I was wondering if it would be worth restoring. If not, I may remove the insides, it may make a good bar table.

thanks,
Bud

Does the piano have any other information on it, such as Dunham & Sons or John Dunham etc.?

What you describe sounds like a Dunham & Sons square grand piano from the 1870s. You might be as well to post in the History forum (if you haven't done so already where Bill may be able to give you more information about it.

I to have been trying to determine the age of my Dunham and Sons upright. I know that in it was built about 1873-1878. The stamp plate was removed but I did find engraved in the wood it's serial number 13759. I live in MPLS MN where I traced down the original owners who bought it and had it shipped to St. Paul MN. I’ve not done a thing to the outside however I’ve replaced he hammers with English style and three years ago had the old steel strings replaced. All the keys are made of ivory. The person I had do the work told me that the value of the piece is only worth what I put into it. I don’t play the piano but the sound that comes out of it is fabulous. Smile
