Renner (for those who don't know, supplies most of Europe and America with felts and actions etc) has a new UK agent. David Fry is now at the helm and blowing new wind into the Renner sails. I wish him luck and look forward to seeing new product ranges for us technicians.
Also heard that he is getting Renner to make softer hammers for those who want a mellow tone.

did you know they do bushing cloth in reels ( like metres of the stuff) for bushing keys?? What a great idea.
It used to be my least likable job after repinning until I got my bush master.

A friend of mine buys their teflon powder from him. The site shows a different method of key bushing.
For all those who restring, the soundboard router bit looks pretty cool.

I used to use the F&N wedges but found that I needed smaller ones for some pianos especialy for the balance. I went wreckless last month and orderd a load of wedges from Spurlock and their soundboard system. I have a soundboard to shim at the end of March so I'll let you know how it goes. The router bit fits into an air grinder and its designed for the v shaped shims. Looks good on paper Smile

Hi Folks

Renner Uk is all mine, the website will be active in about a week and will be www.renneruk.co.uk
I still get "wet" but only part time now as the piano business has become very busy.
The agency has resulted in new workshops and offices which have taken a while to complete. However we are now up and running.

if you need to contact him about all things Renner etc.

We either strip or scrap the soundboards depending on how its been lacquered/ varnished. Then its sanded, and then either we bleach using peroxide and water to dilute, or we put a mild water stain through to even the colour of the board. You have to becareful when bleaching that you don't go over board as you can dry the board and it cracks more in the future. Mostly we use a water stain to give a nice honey effect. A light spray with varnish from a can to seal it, followed by a few coats by brush. On grands ( as you see it more) a final paper with wet and dry and a burnish to bring the shine back. There are other methods like using a polish rubber etc but it depends on what we fancy at the time.
We have a grand in our workshop at the moment which has been in a fire and the board has gone like a leapard camo, so we will strip this with chemicals as scraping will be hard work. Frame colour fav. at the mo is Nissan gold metalic, but I am tempted to do a bright red one day with a black soundboard Twisted Evil

just to add, instead of spraying a thin coat of varnish, use 50% pure turps and 50% yacht varnish. couple of coats and then 25/75%. If you use thined down coats you can get away from cutting down to get rid of brush marks.
