Could anybody please help me ? I know nothing about Pianos but an elderly friend of mine has a Nathaniel Berry cross strung royal in a metal frame ,his mother had it when he was a boy, he is now almost eighty years old and still plays,he seems to think that it is not worth very much so I would love to able to tell him that it just might be worth something.

Thankyou for reading this and if you know anything about this make and model please let me know.
Kind regards .Steve.

Depends on how old and what type, they made little over strung pianos and for their size they are not bad tend to sell for around £600.00 + in good condition in shops up north.

They were Established in 1866 In 1965 Barratt & Robinson Ltd. purchased Nathaniel Berry Pianos the name is no longer used do you have the serial number

Hi Barrie, I have found a little more about the Nathaniel Berry Piano: The serial no is :37874 it has a series no that reads 636, It is an over strung and has a lever that moves left and right that says “Normal or Practice” the wood looks to me like Mahogany and it has an Art Deco type metal design on the front, the steel frame inside has a starburst sort of Art Deco design and is in a bright guilt sort of metal. I will be able to take some photographs later in the week if that would be of any interest.

Kind Regards. Steve

serial no 37874 would date it c1938 Having Art deco case can add value to the piano for the right person. Photographs are always handy see the Please read me first page for the best way to put photos on a forum

I would visit Bill site in the history section he might have pamphlet on Nathaniel Berry
http://www.uk-piano.org/piano-gen/index.html
If not I would send him a PM he may have one but its not on the site yet.

Barrie,

That was a cracking model. The practice switch was a very elegant installation and Berry's Deco designs were rather stylish too. Probably worth a fortune in Brighton!

Does it still have the pair of swing-out Bakelite ashtrays intact under the keyboard or do just the chrome brackets remain? The ashtrays were well-made bespoke efforts moulded with the Berry Pianos logo. A revolting concept, but period nostalgia which is just a bit different!
