Hi, I have an upright piano and would like to get to know a bit of its history. I think it is old because it has the old marks where candle holders would have been and it looks kinda old. I have searched the internet and links from this site to no avail, so if anyone can help its called (printed in gold letters inside the lid) Sage and Russell London. That's it, so any help would be much appreciated.
thankyou. |

I know the name is familiar, but it doesn't appear in any of our London lists from 1850 to 1938. I will check card and paper files, I feel sure it is there somewhere! Would you please check the exact spelling. Can you email me some photos? _________________ I do not buy, sell or value pianos, but I sometimes rescue pre-1880 pianos in the UK.

The only reference I have to this name is from one that was advertised in Exchange & Mart in 1978, but which has no useful information for us. _________________ I do not buy, sell or value pianos, but I sometimes rescue pre-1880 pianos in the UK.

It is difficult to sort out the two names: Justin Browne was a maker, J. Berry rings a bell, but I haven't found him yet in my lists. It's odd that they both appear on the same label. _________________ I do not buy, sell or value pianos, but I sometimes rescue pre-1880 pianos in the UK.

The photos are almost impossible to see, and don't give me much idea of what the whole piano looks like. It could be 1920-ish but it is difficult to judge. _________________ I do not buy, sell or value pianos, but I sometimes rescue pre-1880 pianos in the UK.
