I'm after information about a piano that I have had for some years. There is a makers name over the keyboard of Caperoe and Comp'n from Broadwoods Hackney Road London. The frame is timber and has the number 3810. The case is fairly ornate in burr Walnut (I think) with wooden mouldings and piecrust edges to the lid. Any idea of the age of this piano?

They were at Hackney Road somewhere between 1859-1879, and certainly 1863-1870, but they also had premises at Temple Street, which was off Hackney Road, for a longer period. Dates of numbers are not available, can you email any photos? Press www below, and read "Datemarks".

By 1858, Caperoe and Hastelow had separated, and the Post Office London Directory lists Caperoe (Frs) & Co. 11, St.Matthew's place.
