ALEXANDER BOYD Born in 1972 into a family of painters and writers Alexander Boyd is gaining an increasing reputation as one of the leading pianists of his generation, particularly for his interpretations of the works of Debussy and Chopin.
Alexander made his concerto debut in 1983 performing Mozart’s 1st Piano Concerto with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra conducted by Yerzy Maksimiuk. International engagements soon followed including the Aldeburgh Festival, Banff Centre for the Arts and the Yale Chamber Festival.
Much in demand for recital and chamber music appearances throughout Australia, Europe, the US, Israel and the UK, and with recordings and broadcasts for ABC Radio and BBC Radio and Television, forthcoming engagements this year in England include return performances at the Wigmore Hall(London), the Purcell Room and the Barber Concert Series in Birmingham.He will also be giving recitals in Ireland, Belgium and Holland. 2008 will include an Australasian tour with his brother, cellist Nathaniel Boyd and the Navarra String Quartet . Alexander studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Paul Berkowitz and James Gibb. After graduating in 1995 with distinction he continued his studies in Israel with Pnina Salzman.
In addition to his performance schedule he is a lecturer at the University of Birmingham and on the piano staff at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. His new CD of works by Chopin and Debussy will be released in 2008.
