Mikael Pettersson obtained a B Mus (Hons) degree at Birmingham Conservatoire in 2000. He has also studied with Prof. Hans Leygraf and Prof. Peter Feuchtwanger.
Piano recitals have taken place in Sweden, Germany, France, Austria and the U.K. Venues include St Martin-in-the-Fields, St Mary Abbott's Church and St James's Church in London as well as Barber Institute of Fine Arts, Symphony Hall and the CBSO Centre in Birmingham.
He performed the Piano Concerto in G major by Ravel at St Mary's Church in Nottingham and has appeared on radio and television. He has also produced a CD with music by Chopin, Mozart and Swedish composer Stenhammar and is currently working on a second CD recording featuring Mendelssohn's Lieder ohne Worte.
As an accompanist Mikael Pettersson has worked with Canoldir Male Voice Choir and German singer Eva Meier as well as Richard Jenkinson, Principal Cellist of the CBSO. In 2000 he was a finalist in the Birmingham Accompanist of the Year Competition. He is also employed by Elmhurst School for Dance in Birmingham as a pianist.
Mikael Pettersson has taught piano for several years and has competition prize-winners among his students. Recently his students gained access to further music studies at the Conservatoire in Cardiff as well as the Music Degree at University of Hull. He regularly organizes Masterclasses and concerts for piano students; on 15 June this year his students will perform all Debussy's Preludes in a concert.
In the autumn of 2006 Mikael Pettersson performed for His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales on His visit to Birmingham.
In the summer 2007 Mikael Pettersson took part in a Masterclass at Mozarteum Academie in Salzburg, Austria, culminating in a piano recital.
