Keith Peris was born in Sri-Lanka and commenced piano lessons at the age of eight with Marie Abeywickreme under whose supervision he sat for and passed the first of the graded exams. By the age of ten he won his first prize in Music Theory.He continued his piano lessons under the Supervision of Valerie Coleman and Turza Ponrajah in London and Colombo. He was awarded first prize for his achievement at the grade 6 exam where he was invited to perform to members of the Sri-Lankan Cabinet.In 1987 he was awarded the Fritz Gottlieb Memorial Scholarship for Piano. This entitled him to 2 years study with Vera Yelverton at her Music School in London. Under her supervision he achieved his Teaching Diploma and gained valuable performing experience, at both formal and informal concerts, which were held on a regular basis. This included performing in concerts for Save the Children Fund, both as soloist and with String Quartet.In 1996 he commenced training with David Carhart under whose supervision he achieved 3 further diplomas in Performing, Composition and Analysis under the London College of Music and Trinity College London.Keith has won four Gold Medals, one Silver Medal and one Bronze Medal at Competitive Festivals in London and the I. Smith Challenge Cup for his solo work at the Brent Festival. Following his success at the Competitive Music Festival in Croydon he was invited to perform to the Mayor of Croydon in 1994. He was also Music Director and Pianist in a Musical called The Arrivals, staged at the Fairfield Halls, Croydon in March 2002, where the Mayor of Croydon was Chief Guest.Keiths varied career includes teaching Piano, Music Theory and providing support to pupils taking Music at the GCSE exams. He also undertakes Composition and Accompaniment work, as well as organising Music Sessions at two Activity Centres. He was appointed Pianist at the Urdang Academy of Performing Arts, Covent Garden, in January 2002 and has worked as accompanist at The Royal Ballet and The London Studio Centre.
