Andrew Eales
B.Mus, ARCM
Enjoy relaxed and friendly music tuition with one of the UK's most widely acclaimed keyboard specialists!
Andrew Eales is the author of the best-selling Keyquest tuition books and is a consultant to the ABRSM and other examining boards. He also writes widely in the music and education press and other publications.
Andrew trained at the Royal College of Music and at Birmingham University before beginning a successful career as a music teahcer in the Milton Keynes area. He now teaches piano and keyboard at several local schools including Stantonbury Campus, the Radcliffe School, and a number of Primary schools. He was the head of the Piano and Keyboard Faculty at the Milton Keynes Music Service for several years before concentrating on private teaching as an independant musical expert.
Piano students are entered for ABRSM exams where appropriate (but this is not essential of course!).
Students learn in Andrew's specialised teaching studio, which includes a superb upright accoustic piano, a Yamaha Tyros 2 keyboard, computer and recording equipment. There is also a well-appointed waiting area for parents and siblings, with glass panelled doors overlooking the teaching studio.
Although originally formally trained as a classical musician, Andrew also now teaches jazz and other contemporary styles. He is a keen composer, and provides teaching in a number of music software programmes covering notation (Sibelius), audio recording (Adobe Audition) and Music Production (Ableton Live, Reason).
Where appropriate, recordings are made for pupils, including demonstrations of new pieces and CD recordings of pupils themselves. MP3 recordings of new pieces can be emailed to students so that they can listen to helpful teacher demonstrations to assist independant learning between lessons.
Andrew also runs a club for keyboard players - the Keyquest Club - which provides weekly sessions on Saturday mornings for keybaord players in groups and ensembles. As a private student you can also benefit from the opporunities offered within the club, including regular concert performances should you wish. The club also organises a successful annual Keyboard Fair.
Music Theory is also recommended, and can be taught as part of regular individual lessons or within the special classes for groups, which also include Practical Musicianship and Graded Aural Tests preparation.
An initial consultation is provided free of charge. Lessons are normally provided weekly for 30 minutes. The cost for 2007-2008 is £14.00 per half hour lesson, payable half termly.
Andrew is fully CRB checked and has public indemnity insurance. He is a full elected member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians.
