Nicholas graduated from the University of York in Music in 2006 and was awarded the Charles Heywood scholarship for a Masters in Performance at the Royal Northern College of Music, where he appeared in a masterclass with Phillipe Cassard, performed in the RNCM Ravel Festival and as soloist with the RNCM Wind Orchestra. After achieving a distinction in performance, Nicholas was awarded the Clifton Helliwell Memorial Prize for Piano.

In preparation for a career in music, Nicholas has played concertos with symphony orchestras in Northumberland and York; worked alongside members of the Northern Sinfonia in chamber music workshops and has undertaken repetiteur work for the National Youth Music Theatre and the University of York choir. He is known in the North-East as having been accompanist and organist for Tynemouth Choral Society and resident pianist during the summer months at Wallington Hall for the National Trust as well as having performed extensively as soloist throughout the region. He has appeared at the Empire Theatre, Blackburn, in the Young Artists Platform Concert as part of the University of York’s 2006/07 concert series and as soloist in an RNCM Spotlight concert. He opened the 30th Alnwick International Music Festival with a recital in the Guest Hall of Alnwick Castle in July 2005. Nicholas recently made his professional debut, with a sell-out lunchtime concert for Master Musicians in the North-East.

As a conductor, Nicholas has directed the Chimera Ensemble including performances of the music of Claude Vivier and the world premiere of a work by Kong-Yu Wong.

He has worked with Stephen Hough, Angela Hewitt, Nelson Goerner and Roy Howat and received piano tuition from Sarah Beth Briggs and formerly from David Murray. Currently tutored by Paul Roberts, his future plans include an evening recital at the University of York in 2008, an appearance at the Edinburgh festival and other recitals in London, Newcastle and Edinburgh.
