Thank you for your enquiry with regard to music tuition. My tutoring experience involves teaching piano and music theory from complete beginner through intermediate and advanced levels to diploma standard. A good grounding is given in the necessary skills needed to become a competent pianist and tuition is given in all aspects of technique and interpretation. Pupils work from books and other materials under tutorial guidance, working at a pace that is comfortable for them. Exams are available in both practical and theoretical subjects for those who require them. For pupils, these consist of eight graded exams (Grades 1 - 8) followed by three levels of diploma. All these exams can be taken under my experienced tutelage. Exams, however, are not compulsory: learning simply for pleasure is always encouraged and supported. Enjoyment of lessons and learning to play are the most important aspects of tuition. In teaching the piano, all styles are acknowledged, and training is a mixture of learning pieces, practising various aspects of technique, music interpretation, musicianship skills, and learning music theory. Pupils have their lessons using the piano in my teaching studio and practise on their own piano at home. Mobile tuition is not undertaken due to my having many pupils attending. Tuition is open to both adults and children from around 8 years of age. The teaching practice has been established since 1986 and as a consequence, much experience has been gained. Singing and music theory tuition are also offered. The tutor is vetted and fully registered with EPTA UK and AOTOS and is also an examiner of graded and diploma exams.
