Ruth Rodrigues began her musical education in Singapore as violinist at the age of three, studying under Yan Yin Wing, Fan Ho Tang and Alexander Souptel. Having been awarded several academic scholarships, Ruth is about to embark on her 3rd year as a Ph.D. musicology candidate at the University of Birmingham, UK, researching in 19th-century violin performance practice. Leader of the University Symphony Orchestras for three consecutive years, Ruth has taken part in various competitive music festivals, winning prizes for both solo violin and chamber music categories in the Birmingham, Dudley and Leamington Spa festivals. Her undergraduate years, also in Birmingham University, culminated in 2005 when she won the University concerto prize with a performance of Korngold Violin’s Concerto with the University Symphony Orchestra in the Adrian Boult Hall under the direction of Martin Leigh.
