This lovely example of a fully-restored Richard Lipp & Sohn upright, serial no. 24953 is a typical example of a late-19th century rosewood upright with an 85 note keyboard retaining perfect ivories and with a sumptuous tone, and is available for only £3,950, including ground-floor delivery within the M25.
The instrument has been completely restrung with new dampers and a completely overhauled action with reshaped (original) hammers. This piano has a beautiful tone and a nice light touch. One of the best known pianomakers of that time was Breitkopf & Hartel, still known today as a prominent musik publisher. These were strong reasons for Julius Blüthner to start his piano making in Leipzig after having spent several years wandering from one pianomaker to another to improve on his knowledge of the craft. In November 1853 he began with three men and his instruments found immediate acclaim among the musical bourgeoisie.
Julius Blüthner founded 1853 in Leipzig, the Blüthner name has an enviable reputation for 150 years and in the opinion of many world famous artist and musical connisseurs has reached the pinnacle of perfection. It was also essentioal to furnish instruments to the royal courts of many European countries, among which were the German Kaiser, Qeen Victoria, the Russian Tsar, the Danish King, the Turkish Sultan and of course the King of Saxony.
