Gee's Restaurant : Jazz
Formerly a florist and Greengrocer, Gee's was taken over by present owner Jeremy Mogford in 1983. Inspired by its existing natural features, he enhanced the building to create a Restaurant and Bar with a collection of Contemporary artwork. Simple yet beautiful, relax in this Victorian conservatory surrounded by comfortable banquette seating and dazzling white linen in an atmosphere of calm, elegant luxury.
Gee's focuses on modern European food and has sought to simplify presentation, cutting through to the essentials and relying on the integrity of the ingredients. Steve McCartney leads a team of 10 chefs who combine age and experience with youth and enthusiasm, their philosophy being to source the best possible ingredients and support local and regional suppliers, keeping food simple and seasonal.
Being a University town, young, cosmopolitan staff double as poets, philosophers and artists to deliver discreet yet impeccable service. With a wine list of 60 bins including champagne, Gee's offers an expansive, eclectic collection of styles, grapes varieties and countries of origin. A combination of what might be called 'comfort' and 'adventure' wines.
Gee's, a local institution, captures the whole dining experience, a combination of good food, attentive and knowledgeable staff, thoughtful, sympathetic design and a great central location.
The restaurant and terrace are open every day for lunch, dinner or just a drink, from 12 noon with jazz every Sunday night.
